„Demokratieforum“ by Manfred Thallner & Johanna Waldhör (2014)
Participation is an important basic element of democracy. Especially for young people the influence is limited – despite the fact that they are the generation which is the most effected one by economical and social changes due to political decissions.
To give young people a possibility to share their political culture with the public, a forum for democracy should be planned in the Grete-Rehor-Park, next to the Austrian Parliament in Vienna.
As participation is one of the most important aspects of democracy, the building should be accessible and visible for everyone. Furthermore it should also be visible for everyone whats going on inside.
The building therefore consists of different functions which are arranged in transparent or translucent volumes around a big open space where people can meet and exchange their ideas and oppinions. The open floorplan allows to interact and use all the functions of the building easily. So people can use the library for research, do an event at the eventhall, show their projects in the exibition space or maybe just have discussions at the cafe.
